Stand By Me is not about boys becoming men. It’s about boys realizing they will have to. And for this girl child I felt seen in a world that mostly never understood me.
Being a #two-spirit & not knowing the name hurt for many years. Psychological tests harmed more than helped. A doctor told me I thought more like a boy than a girl. I was 12. No shame to my parents because they didn’t have the resources ( money ) to help me but they did everything they could. 🫂
It’s one of the most honest films ever made about:
• friendship
• loss
• class
• and the moment the world stops being safe
