Satoshi Nakamoto is the pseudonym of a person or group who wrote the bitcoin whitepaper in 2008. The paper was published just 15 days after the 2008 financial crisis began, when Lehman Brothers collapsed. Months later, on January 3, 2009, the first bitcoin block was mined. That block contained a message that would be forever etched in the history of bitcoin:
