Open for Comment: Special Conditions: Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation (Gulfstream) Model G300 Airplane; Dynamic Test Requirements for Single- and Multiple- Occupant Side-Facing Seats With or Without Airbag Systems

Transportation Department — This action proposes special conditions for the Gulfstream Model G300 airplane. This airplane, as modified by Gulfstream, will have a novel or unusual design feature when compared to the state of technology envisioned in the airworthiness standards for transport- category airplanes. This design feature is side-facing seats, oriented in the aircraft with the occupant facing 90 degrees to the direction of aircraft travel, with or without incorporation of an airbag systems or inflatables. The applicable airworthiness regulations do not contain adequate or appropriate safety standards for this design feature. These proposed special conditions contain the additional safety standards that the Administrator considers necessary to establish a level of safety equivalent to that established by the existing airworthiness standards.
