The Grace of The Last Age - the wrath of the honey badger - hasn't yet slaughtered these beasts, and we've got issues now. And it's ideas like the ideas in Return of the God Hypothesis that are part of the way out. Learn it. Internalize it. Speak it.
A book for kicking in the teeth of the atheists, Stephen Meyer’s Return Of The God Hypothesis throws down the gauntlet with regards to several areas wherein the enemies of God have anchored their diabolical grimoires that purport to pin down the mysterium tremendum. Flashback time: "It's getting stuffy in here. Could someone kindly open a window ?"
Meyer begins the book by describing the ties that bind so-called "Judeo-Christianity" (a highly suspicious juxtaposition) to the origins of the scientific method. As opposed to the standard acosmological bile of the modern mind which presumes an oppositional relationship between religious belief and science(to be distinguished sharply from (((science))) and scientism) the author proves that, before the current year, there was ample intellectual, philosophical and scientific support for the idea that it was the belief in God (or an ordering 'mind behind things') itself that fueled the development of the scientific mind:
Moreover, since nature had been designed by the same rational mind who had designed the human mind, the early modern scientists (or, again, “natural philosophers”) who began to investigate nature also assumed that nature was intelligible. It could be understood by the human intellect. The founders of modern science assumed that if they studied nature carefully, it would reveal its secrets. Their confidence in this assumption was grounded in both the Greek and the Judeo-Christian idea that the universe is an orderly system—a cosmos, not a chaos. As the British philosopher Alfred North Whitehead argued, “There can be no living science unless there is a widespread instinctive conviction in the existence of an Order of Things. And, in particular, of an Order of Nature.” Whitehead particularly attributed this conviction among the founders of modern science to the “medieval insistence upon the rationality of God.

Thus, the assumption that a rational mind with a will had created the universe gave rise to two ideas—contingency and intelligibility—which, in turn, provided a powerful impetus to study nature with confidence that such study would yield understanding.
Contrary to what the bloviating primate Richard Dawkins thinks - that the signs point to a universe of "pitiless indifference" - Meyer demonstrates that any honest assessment of the available evidence, and perhaps more importantly, the lack thereof, indicates that:
“The properties of the universe and of life—specifically as they pertain to understanding their origins—are just “what we should expect” if a transcendent and purposive intelligence has acted in the history of life and the cosmos. Such an intelligence coincides with what human beings have called God, and so I call this story of reversal the return of the God hypothesis.”
One of the main fault lines in this tectonic shift among the leading thinkers in the field has to do with some general observations culled from the relatively new field of Information Theory. Developed in the 1940s, it's pioneer, Claude Shannon, defined information as a sort of sequential improbability introducing an unspecified "complexity" that he saw as eliminating uncertainty. But what about specified complexity ? The difference between unspecified and specified complexity is that while the former indeed introduces an improbability, the latter, in addition to introducing complexity, also serves an actual function. Think about all the symbols inherent in the art and science of computer programming. Dumped in there randomly the computer will do nothing at all. But enter the symbols in a specific order (that is, with a mind to it) and the machine will come alive.

“It turns out that the specific arrangements of bases in DNA, like the arrangement of letters in an English sentence or digital characters in computer software, do not just exhibit a high degree of mathematical improbability. Instead, the specific arrangements of the nucleotide bases (especially in the coding regions of DNA) enable the DNA bases to perform a function in the cell. The bases in DNA convey instructions for building proteins—and do so in virtue of their specificity of arrangement. As Francis Crick explained in 1958, “Information means here the precise determination of sequence, either of bases in the nucleic acid [i.e., in the DNA] or of amino-acid residues in the protein.”
From the big-bang right through to Neo-darwinism, Meyer shows definitively , using the established orthodox data itself, that their model of the universe is not only impossibly unlikely, but entirely absurd.

In my book Signature in the Cell, I perform updated calculations of the probability of the origin of even a single functional protein or corresponding functional gene (the section of a DNA molecule that directs the synthesis of a particular protein) by chance alone. My calculations are based upon recent experiments in molecular biology establishing the extreme rarity of functional proteins in relation to the total number of possible arrangements of amino acids corresponding to a protein of a given length. Taking that and several other relevant independent factors into account, I show that the probability of producing even a single functional protein of modest length (150 amino acids) by chance alone in a prebiotic environment stands at no better than a “vanishingly small” 1 chance in 10(to the)164, an inconceivably small probability. To put this number in perspective, recall that physicists estimate that there are only 10(tothe)80 elementary particles in the entire universe.
