🏗️ From Walled Gardens to Sovereign Stacks

A personal manifesto for breaking out of SaaS walled gardens — and building protocol-native, sovereign tools using Nostr and Bitcoin. From property registries to publishing, this is a blueprint for opting out and building free.

🏗️ From Walled Gardens to Sovereign Stacks

Why We’re Building in Public — with Bitcoin and Nostr

🌱 The Problem

Nearly every SaaS product today is a walled garden.

You don’t own your data.
You rent access to your own work.
Your account can be locked, priced out, or shadowbanned without notice.

Features change. Policies change. You don’t get a vote.

Even the well-intentioned platforms eventually turn inward — optimizing for growth, not freedom.
What started as “software as a service” became software as a cage.

🪓 The Breakaway

We’re not trying to “disrupt SaaS.”
We’re doing something more radical:

We’re opting out.

Instead of building closed platforms, we’re building sovereign stacks:

🔓 Open by design
⚡ Powered by Bitcoin
📡 Federated through Nostr
💻 Local-first, cloud-optional

Every tool we build works without us.
Hosting is offered as a convenience — not a dependency.

🧱 What We’re Building

Under Golden Gate Group, we’re developing tools for real-world sovereignty:

ToolReplacesSovereign Stack Description
MyContinuumLinkedIn, Medium, NotionIdentity + publishing over Nostr
GetMortyTitle companies, notariesProperty title lookup + validation
GGG MLSZillow, Realtor.comBitcoin-aligned property listings
Signal ToolsHootsuite, SubstackLocal-first zapping + cross-posting
Nostr BlogGhost, SubstackStatic sovereign longform blog

These aren’t just products.
They’re protocol-native tools that respect your freedom.

You can:
✅ Run them locally
✅ Host them yourself
✅ Clone, remix, or extend them freely
✅ Or subscribe to hosted versions — no lock-in, ever

🧰 Bonus Note for Builders

The most mind-bending realization of all:
With Nostr, you don’t need to store or manage anything permanently.

Every piece of data — every post, listing, article, or profile — is already out there.

You’re not building a database.
You’re building a lens.

Apps aren’t platforms anymore — they’re filters, viewers, and interpreters.

  • Identity? Already baked in.
  • Monetization? Already native (zaps).
  • Social graph? Embedded in the protocol.

The old SaaS model says:

“Store the user’s data and rent it back to them.”

The sovereign model says:

“Let users own their data — and build tools that honor that.”

🔁 Rebuilding the SaaS Stack with Nostr

SaaS PlatformNostr EquivalentNotes
FacebookNotes (kind 1), DMs (kind 4)Social graph, posts, and groups can be replicated
SubstackArticles (kind 30023)Long-form posts with zaps + open comments
Twitter/XNotes (kind 1)Microblogging + reply threading
DiscordEncrypted DMs (kind 4), ChannelsRoom-based chats via relay filters or tagging
MediumArticles (kind 30023)Write once, mirror forever across relays
CraigslistClassifieds (custom kind or tags)Listings, with replies and zaps for contact/payment
PatreonZaps + tag-based gatingSupporters-only content via tags + relay filters
NotionStructured notes, metadata tagsPublic knowledge garden, outline-based navigation
GitHub GistsNotes with code: tags or custom UILightweight snippet sharing, versionable
ShopifyProduct/event listings + paywallsBTC/Nostr-native commerce stack (via Zaprite/lnbits)

You don’t need to mimic their UI or business model.
You just need to ask: What core interaction is happening here?

If it’s:

  • A message → kind 1 or kind 4
  • A document → kind 30023
  • A listing → tagged event
  • A payment → zap

Then it can be rebuilt — sovereign, portable, and open.

📊 Platform Archive Integration (Coming Soon to MyContinuum)

We’re also working to integrate full data archives from legacy platforms — so you can take back your digital history.

PlatformArchive FormatParsed ContentPotential Features

Your posts, messages, and moments belong to you.
With MyContinuum, they’ll stay that way.

🛤️ The Philosophy

Own your identity.
Own your content.
Own your value.

No paywalls for basic access.
No tricks, no traps, no friction added just to extract revenue.
Only tools that work — honestly and transparently.

Because the future isn’t just decentralized.
It’s sovereign.

And it’s already here — if you’re willing to build it.
