Joint pain associated with Gluten

How does gluten cause joint pain?

While I am a fully licensed physician in Kansas, this communication does not constitute personal medical advice or establish a physician-patient relationship. See your own physician to discuss your particular diagnosis and treatment

The association of joint pain with gluten intake is interesting. You may have heard other people discuss the resolution of their joint pain when eliminating gluten. I have personally experienced this phenomenon. Many of my patients that have eliminated gluten have echoed the same result.

Some benefits of gluten elimination

Decreased joint pain, blood sugar, and diarrhea. Also, improved weight, and brain functioning. See below to more fully understand the affect of gluten on joint pain.

Gluten causes a shift in the pH that can cause leaching of important minerals from bones resulting in osteoporosis and increased risk for fracture.

Gluten causes excess sugar (glucose). When glucose level in the circulation is high, glycation, a process that results in protein linkage to glucose occurs. This glycation product travels through the circulation and can settle in joints. These joints can become brittle and crumble causing pain and inflammation.

Gluten is not the friend of your joints!

I hope this information helps you and your loved ones!
