And when we say yours, we mean it. You own your CasaKeeper AI. It operates locally, not in the cloud, protecting your private data within your home —because your family's information shouldn't be a corporation's business.

Why CasaKeeper AI

Five years from now, access to artificial intelligence will be akin to what access to the Internet represents today. It will be the greatest differentiator between the haves and have nots. Unequal access to artificial intelligence will exacerbate societal inequalities and limit opportunities for those without access to it.

Everyone must have their own AI. And by your own AI we mean an AI that:

• Acts in your best interest
• It is not controlled by other individuals or corporations
• Keeps your information private

An AI that can't be compelled to testify against you

Having a personal AI that is exclusively under your control is the best way to prevent the government from compelling the AI to testify against you in court:

Needless to say, your personal AI should be considered an extension of you, and if you pledge the fifth, so does your AI.

Your AI balances the playing field with corporate AIs.

Take for example an scenario where you're on a phone call with your health care insurance company arguing against their decision to decline coverage for certain treatment.

Rest assured that the insurance company will give an AI to the representative arguing their case with you. This AI will have access to all your medical records, health care laws, and regulations, and will use this information to guide the representative in the conversation with you to continue to decline the coverage that you need.

You can't win this battle. Unless you have your own AI, negotiating with you, and for you.

But how?

There is only one right way to do this.

Your AI is only as effective as the information it has about you. Therefore, logic dictates that it should know everything about you. It should be another you, but with super powers.

The AI needs to be private. No one should have access to your AI but you. The AI must run locally in your house and protect your data at all costs. But saying that it's private and that your data never leaves your home is not enough. You shouldn't trust anyone. You must verify. That is why the AI must be free open source software (FOSS).

FOSS checks the box for another requirement: the AI can't be controlled by any corporation or entity that could be compelled to turn over your data to a judge or the government because no corporation owns it.

A Free Open Source Software model is the only way to deliver on the promise of an AI that only answers to you.

What exactly is CasaKeeper AI?

CasaKeeper AI is a data sensing and fusion platform. It gathers data from any connected sensor, microphones, cameras, door bells, movement sensors, etc., and makes this data available to the skills installed with the platform.

CasaKeeper AI is also an AI agent, capable of coordinating multiple skills to reach a higher level objective.

The architecture is designed to ensure that the data never leaves the platform, even when used by skills developed by 3rd parties.

And this is key. We can't build every possible skill. We need 3rd party developers to build skills for CasaKeeper AI. We believe, and hope, that the FOSS community will see the value of CasaKeeper AI and will join us in this crazy crusade against corporate personal AIs.

The CasaKeeper AI core team will focus on developing the data sensing, data fusing, AI agent, data-privacy focused platform and the skills marketplace. We won't be re-inventing the wheel; We will leverage FOSS components whenever possible. For example, we won't develop our own Large Language Model (LLM). We will use a FOSS LLM with an architecture that allows us to swap LLMs as needed.

We will also develop an initial set of skills to get things rolling, but we will let others develop the majority of skills and make them available through the CasaKeeper AI Marketplace. An example 3rd party skill could be the negotiator mentioned at the beginning of this article.

Achieving our long term goals

We want everyone to have their own home AI. And let's face it, the majority of people in the world will not create a GitHub account, download the source code, create an executable build, deploy it in a computer with sufficient GPU, and connect it to available sensors throughout the home.

The CasaKeeper AI core team will create an AI starter kit that has everything you need to get your own private home AI up and running including the computer, the AI with an initial set of skills and the sensors required by these skills.

We know this will be one of the strongest barriers to entry, so we won't be making money on the hardware and will strive to make it as cheap as possible.

We also expect that most people won't want the hassle of updating and maintaining their home AI, so we will offer support and maintenance, updating and upgrading your local build with the latest software available. We don't have a number yet for the monthly support fee, but it will be small.

CasaKeeper AI will operate as a for-profit corporation, with revenue coming from support or other extra services built on top of the CasaKeeper AI platform.

The CasaKeeper AI core team will maintain and enhance the FOSS CasaKeeper AI platform and develop and support the 3rd party developer community, to maximize the adoption of CasaKeeper AI.

The platform will be built so that 3rd party developers can offer skills with any license, including a commercial license. If somebody wants to sell a skill and there is a buyer, we won't interfere with the market.

We strongly believe that taking this mixed, commercial and FOSS approach ensures the long term viability of our CasaKeeper AI vision.

Narrowing down the field

The vision is large. Back in the 80s, Microsoft embarked on a mission to put a computer on every desk and in every home. We're embarking on a mission to put a private AI on every home.

Every single middle aged adult that we have interviewed has expressed their desire to buy a CasaKeeper AI for their parents living at home. So, to get started, we have narrowed down the field to a very specific set of customers: seniors living at home.

Seniors themselves are also interested in having a home AI that allows them to remain independent for a longer period of time.

Our starter kit, initial set of skills and marketing and sales efforts will be focused on this segment.

You're going against Amazon. Are you out of your f%&ing mind?

The short answer is yes.

The reality is that Amazon and Google can't follow us where we're going. They won't build a private AI because their business model relies on the monetization of your data.

And even if they did, who is going to believe them? Many have an Alexa, but less than 10% of the people I've interviewed trust Alexa and would be willing to have a home AI built by Amazon.

Our real competition is Apple. They present themselves as the privacy champions and their brand is more trusted than Amazon.

We have a narrow opportunity to establish a private personal AI as the way to go.

Next steps

We're still in fact finding mode. Interviews are all good and dandy but we need hard data.

We are in the midst of launching an ad campaign to drive traffic to our website and measure the real desirability of the CasaKeeper AI concept with our waiting list.

Once we have a clear picture of the hardware that we will be using, we will launch a pre-sale or a kickstarter campaign to continue to measure the desirability and make sure that we're heading in the right direction.
