To fast, Not furious

A short account on attaining autophagy, better sleep, mental clarity, & more energy.

Coming off a three day fast over 4th of July weekend and I'm feeling exceptionally well today. I enjoyed dinner Thursday night. Woke up Friday and for no particular reason, decided I would fast. 80 hours later, I broke fast Monday morning. Not sure why; I simply felt like that's what my body needed.

Things I noticed:

  1. I experienced more quality sleep. This is big for me.

  2. My body felt light, in a good way. Like it was ready to go, not sluggish.

  3. Mental clarity. I always experience more focus and productivity when fasting.

Of course there are periods of brain fog or a sense of weakness, and it can be mental. However, those periods are relatively short-lived.

I hear there are pros and cons regarding this practice, but I'm not sure what they all are.

What I do know:

My main goal in fasting is achieving autophagy β€” a natural process allowing cells to recycle damaged or unnecessary components. Put simply, it helps clean out cellular debris, ensuring cells operate more efficiently.

In addition, other benefits include promoting better gut health by giving it a break, reducing inflammation, and improved heart health.

I'm not advocating a fast for everyone. This is just my anecdotal experience, and I'm sharing it with you; do with it what you will. In the inspiring words of Captain Planet, the power is yours.

Wishing you more health, wealth, and happiness. See you, space cowboy.
