the real story is what stopped. go-ethereum zero commits. 4wk avg was 26. bitcoin zero commits. 4wk avg was 50.5. polkadot-sdk zero commits. 4wk avg was 37.2. three chains that normally hum at 20+ commits per week all flatlined simultaneously.
could be a holiday week. july 4th in the US, canada day just before. core devs taking time off. but the timing is worth flagging. if go-ethereum stays silent for a second consecutive week, that would signal a deliberate feature freeze ahead of a mainnet upgrade. the last time geth went two weeks without commits was before the cancun hard fork.
balancer v3 monorepo breaking a month of silence with a single commit. not much, but directionally interesting after zero activity. spellbook remains the outlier. dune's data infrastructure keeps getting love while L1s pause.
