During the pandemic, while I was a senior in high school, I reached the conclusion that the convergence of science and spirituality is absolutely necessary and bound to occur if our species desires to progress in a sustainable fashion. (funnily, I had “Tiktok University” at the time to thank for this conclusion). It is the truth, the Way, when all study is said and done. Though I have intellectually and intuitively known about this merging of two “separate” worlds (the science and the spiritual) for about five years now, my growth as a college student, both in academia and in lived experience outside of academia, gifted me a fully embodied notion of this sentiment.
Though arguably unfortunate, the superiority of the scientific method and its thinking threatened and diminished the innate, spiritual mysticism carried by Life for many people. It is our pattern as an industrialized and colonized society, of both land and mind, to “wait” for modern scientific results to affirm certain conclusions of said mystery, some of which many indigenous cultures already proclaimed millennia ago via their spiritual technologies. Even so, recent developments in high science suggest a redirection onto this path that has existed for a very long, and managed to survive even the threats of [insert your choice of capitalism, the industrial revolution, conspiratorial elites, the damaging of the Earth, etc…]— this path that returns back to the mystic.
This is not to negate the commodities of our modern society: “we”, those privileged to access the somewhat “uncensored” digital network (under the threat of fascism, I must admit this statement of no censorship is questionable), have access to knowledge of people, places, things, and ideas from coast to coast, one realm on Earth to the next. How fascinating! It is truly a miracle how quick we have access to download information, sights, and scenery. May I also add the extraordinary human feats, full of grit, discipline, and mastery. Olympians, time and time again, upgrade their human meat-suit to align with a spirit and will so strong, the unimaginable continues to be achieved again and again. What humanity has done during our time on Earth is captivating, exceededing expectations.
However, we are lost, we are losing and have been.
I ask myself, to what aim are we truly striving toward? We— the majority of us, the minority of us, all of us. Are we all living in integrity to this fascination of the human spirit? Are we all pursuing our Calling in the good spirits of humankind? Are we walking our path in as much respect and reverence for all life on Earth as we can?Or, are we too ignorant, too lazy, too unwilling to unlearn habits and ways of being? To learn and relearn new ways for the sake of our very survival? And, better yet, our capacity for Thrival? (Thriving, lol).
I do not see how single-use wrapping and plastic works for us anymore. Hell, I do not see how the willingness to participate in single-use plastic is of help to anyone or anything—even to the single-use capital-consumer market, for the losses over a long-term horizon are literally fatal.
Are we asleep? Are we too in the rat-race to stay awake long enough to change? To realize that we actually CAN come together in community and direct our resources to one another? To support local economy, help a neighbor, and ReConnect once more?
Am I in an algorithmically-produced echo chamber, or are we all asking the question of, who am I really? Are you, too, seeking to become more aligned with your authentic, true self? Are you trying to walk a path of liberation, free from the very real chains of these oppressive systems and forms of thought?
When was it this hard to wake up? Isn’t it easier now?
History repeats itself, so I am not surprised we find ourselves in this familiar cycle of upcoming revolution, on the brink of either systematic change or complete destruction. I think of the anecdote of Brutus and Antony, who gave speeches to the Roman republic after the death of Caesar. Brutus utilized Logos, appealing to logic, virtue, and the long-term horizon. Antony, on the other hand, utilized Pathos, a theatrical emotional appeal to sway the crowd with immediacy. Humans, overcome by emotion, pick Antony, and civil war breaks out. Good thing, bad thing, who knows? Maybe the change would have occurred differently if those humans chose differently.
Regardless, the lessons will be repeated until they are learned. ‘Tis the nature of cyclical suffering. As the mystics say, as above, so below. The principle of learning your lesson is not just a personal self-help principle, it is a universal principle for human society. So, when will we stop forgetting so easily? When will we remember? When will we integrate our lessons, deeper and deeper as life unfolds into more subtlety? It is only then we can change for the better on a local, state, national, global level.
So, let’s help walk each other home. No more escapism. No more Neo-colonial tactics to run away from the work that has to be done. Be true, be genuine, be a unifying pillar on the battleground of separation. Raise consciousness. You may be struck with arrow and sword, but dear human, were you meant to come out of this life unscathed? Isn’t every scar a story your soul wished to have and desired to tell, isn’t it why you incarnated onto this Earth?
With love,
Pia
