We have also Rebecca Bibliotecha is joining us live from Las Vegas. Now her the internet is down where she is. She can't even get a signal on her phone but she can call on her phone and we've got her on the phone today. Good morning Rebecca. How are you doing? Good morning everybody. It's absolutely insane. I'm in a condo in the middle of Vegas. I have no idea why aren't working. The gods must be against me.
0:42 Yes. Well, life is about finding workarounds for the gods. I think it is too. But you know what? You're so innovative. You're like, "Hey, why don't we just do an auto?" And I'm like, "What?" Like, it never even turned my mind. So, you're amazing. Thank you. That's okay. Everybody who's watching knows that we got started 9 minutes late or so and that's is why. All right, church historian apologizes. That is the big news for today. There's this the uh the slide up there on the screen. My mission companion did the right thing and I am really really happy to hear about this and very happy to report it to you. So let me go to the next slide here.
1:21 You may remember that my mission companion had made some unfortunate comments last Sunday and I'm going to replay those now. He has apologized and I like the Lord like to forget what has been uh forgiven. But for context for the future, everybody's got to know what he's apologizing about and it will not be fresh on everybody's minds in the future the way it is now. So, let me go ahead and play this. This now is going to be for the record. This is what he's going to be apologizing for. Play the tape.
1:51 So, this was from the Yukon, Oklahoma stake. This was last Sunday, June 7th, 2026. The meeting started at 10:00 in the morning. There's Elder Kyles McKay, the church historian, my former missionary companion. Well, brothers and sisters, it has been just a joy to spend this weekend with you and especially the last hour plus. I've been so moved by what has been said and by what the Lord has been telling me. I hope that um his spirit may continue and that I won't get in the way of whatever God is trying to teach you. I've I've had a couple of experiences that have been less than spiritual. One coming out of the fact that you maybe you can see it, but when you're on this stage, there's two just great big lights. And this I I call this the revenge of the grasshoppers because when I was a child, you know what you do with a grasshopper and a magnifying glass? And so for all of those that I sent to the other side, um, now I'm got the same kind of light here on me. And
2:55 I'm wearing glasses and I've burned holes in my retina here. So I'm I'm grateful for this light. I'm especially grateful that we could sing this little light of mine. That's a song where white people try to sing like black people. And we It's our hymn. But I I want you to know that we sang it in our ward. I happen to be visiting our ward um because I don't get a to go to my home ward and we sang it for intermediate or something him and I'm sitting next to our second counselor there on the stand and he's singing this little light of mine. I'm going to let it shine. And I dude, I wanted to turn to him and say, "You know, you're white." And and he was saying, "No, no, no. I'm an African slave is what I am." And I'm singing Swany River. And I Anyway, it's I I'm so glad it's in our Hbook. It does make you move just a little bit. Um and then there's another hymn in there that makes you move even more. I'm gonna live so God can use me. I like that one. I'm
4:01 grateful that we can rejoice in our music. So, that was really pretty much it. Um, and I just put the video on pause. That was mainly it. I can't do a clip on this one from For some reason I have to play it and then stop it. So, Rebecca, are you able to hear what I'm playing on the screen over the phone? Yeah. memorized it over and over. You just think it's just worse and worse every time. And do you know what? As I watch it over and over, I actually kind of feel more for him kind of over and over. Just especially some of the close-ups I've seen when you can see him kind of dying inside, the light going out of his eyes.
4:50 He kind of realizes it that he's ded himself into this hole. But I have to say that this newest development is something I never expected because we've heard other people say things. And I think it has to be pretty intense for somebody to actually publicly acknowledge and apologize. I can think of Brad Wilcox. He did have to make, if you remember, sort of a formal apology that was picked up, you know, in in the media. News news stories ran about that.
5:16 So, but I was surprised um when I started receiving um this information that something had gone out to every member in the state and apparently it was two days ago at least that's when the letter was dated. I'm going to bring the letter signed by Kyle McCay up on the stage. That's what it looks like. Sorry. Do you want to bring up the letter that the state president sent out first? I can, but I wanted to get to this.
5:43 This is the the next one I have in the in the line because this is the big story. I don't want to make everybody wait forever. Let me talk about it for a minute. The letter went out to the state um where they explained that there would be an announcement. This is a letter from the state. Okay, Rebecca. Rebecca, we're going to do it your way. Okay. So, I've got the letter out from the state.
6:04 Do you have that in front of you? Do you want to read that? No, I think you're gonna have to read it because I probably because I'm also having self-service. I feel like I'm, you know, in the pioneer attractive podcast here. So, you better read it just to make sure that you got all correct, but everybody received this letter that was about to read and then we're told there was an additional attachment, right? And the attachment was Kyle's letter, right? Yes.
6:28 Okay. Here's the email. It's from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Yukon, Oklahoma State. Dear brothers and sisters, we are so grateful for the outpouring of the spirit and revelation we received as we gathered last weekend for state conference. We hope you received personal revelation on ways you can draw closer to the savior and experience the peace and healing power of his atonement to a greater degree in your life. Elder McCay, who presided at the conference, sent the attached letter to President Mendelh Hall regarding some comments he made in the general session and invited us to share it with anyone who could benefit. Well, I guess that would be us. We love you and pray for the love, grace, and blessings of our savior Jesus Christ can continue to be poured out upon you and upon all those you love and that we can continue to witness his miracles in our lives and in the lives of all of those in the Yukon Oklahoma State. With love, President Menhal, President Ny, President Tulle, Yukon, Oklahoma State presidency.
7:32 And then there's an interesting appendage to this, but first off, did you have any thoughts about that letter, Rebecca? or just in the middle. I am so sorry. Could you say that again? I may have inadvertently muted you. Okay. Believe it or not, my phone is now uh dying or not dying, but just kind of kinking out. And you sound like a robot. So, I think I'm gonna have to completely uh just to rescue this little puppet podcast, jump off and let you finish. I will just give a couple more thoughts if you can still hear me even though I can't hear you. And just you know how unusual this is that they would even address it. Um but interesting that they're also saying hey we took that broadcast down because that's what it was in my handbook not because there was embarrassment. 8:33 Well, that was Rebecca Bibliotecha calling us live from um Las Vegas. Okay, so let's get to the the part of this that we've all been waiting for. All right, there's the letter. I did a close-up of the letter, and this is the one that's signed by Elder Kyle S. Mccay dated June 10th, 2026. So that was uh Wednesday. Dear President Mindenh Hall, at the beginning of my remarks this past Sunday in the Yukon Oklahoma State Conference, I made a poor attempt at humor around the singing of this little light of mine.
9:06 My words have caused offense and injury and put a blight on an otherwise wonderful weekend. I deeply regret saying what I said and apologize for pain, offense or embarrassment that I have caused anyone in your stake or beyond or beyond. I pray that Jesus who descended below all sins and error will somehow help heal wounds I may have caused and in the process give me better vision and judgment. Please feel free to share this letter with anyone who might benefit from reading it. All the best, Elder Kyle S. McKay. So, there it is. And this is uh an apology. It appears to be a rather fullthroated apology. I know he says um people that I may have hurt, but before he says that, he says that I did injure people. He says, "I deeply regret saying what I said and apologize." He used the a word, the apologize word, a general authority for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints actually apologized in spite of the president of the church right now who is famous for saying that the church doesn't apologize for
10:23 anything. Well, Elder Ky Mccay did apologize for something and he did the right thing. I when I found out about this, I almost cried. I was so happy. I have been so upset, frustrated. I'm not sure what the word is for the emotions I've been experienced all week. I think that everybody who has watched me report on this could see that I wasn't doing it with any joy. Quite the opposite.
10:52 But I'm so glad that Kyle, even though he stepped in it, is doing the right thing. And God knows I step in it all the time. I try and apologize when an apology is necessary. I think I've proven that in the past even calling out to people who called in that I roughed up when they were on the air live and I was just too harsh, you know, and I called up this person and apologized and I think I've apologized a number of times, but that's because I do so many things that are that are need apologizing for. Some people never apologize for every anything even when they obviously do something that they should apologize for. And I'm just really glad that Kyle is not that kind of guy. I did not think he was that kind of guy. I mean, I knew him for a month, two months back in 1980, so what, 46 years ago? I I would not say that I got to know him as an individual intimately, but he sure made a good impression on me. He was a heck of a guy. I think he still is to this day. So, thank you,
11:51 Kyle, for making that apology. Um, I'm not sure that it's to me for me to accept, but I'm really glad that you uh made the apology. So, I hope that I know that I expect that Kyle chose his words carefully and he uses I mean, he was an attorney, right? The church historian was an attorney, but that also means he chooses his words carefully and he chose that apologize word carefully and I think he knew what he was doing when he used that uh that word. So it is up to everybody out there what you make of this apology and whether you accept it or whether you don't. Um, I will just say that my hope is that we in the post Mormon community can be more charitable to my former mission companion than Mormons frequently are to us.
