This eARThist Vlog is about the nice city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Even though I’ve visited before, I still love to wander its streets — there’s always something new to see. They help me focus on the present moment from breathtaking scenery to the nuances of human behavior. These moments often spark my inspiration to draw. For me, art is like breathing; it’s not work, it’s simply part of who I am. Gran Canaria’s climate is perfect year-round — not too hot, not too cold — making it an ideal place for me to create new art. Every visit becomes a creative chapter. Alecs inspired me to explore new surfaces and materials, pushing my art beyond the digital. I’m truly grateful he helped me step outside my comfort zone. Now I’m in love with this new direction, working more with physical art. Alecs and Elena now own the first official artwork with an original frame from this new series. We also agreed that he only can sell the artwork if the price is enough to bring Alecs and his family to Japan — where we’d meet again, this time with an artist friend over there. Carnival is a big deal in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. I’ve experienced it for a few years now, and two years ago, I even made a couple drawings about it in 2023. One fun part is the dog carnival, where people dress up their dogs in costumes. Naturally, I had to make a drawing of that. 🙂 Then there’s the famous Drag Queen Gala, which has been running for over 25 years. It’s wonderful to have artist friends from around the world, each bringing their unique cultural perspectives. They share how they see art, sparking inspiration and opening doors to new creative influences. The reason I’ve returned to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, is my artist friend Alecs. I’ll be staying here for two months, creating new art inspired by the Spanish influence of Alecs. We have deep conversations about art, artists, and what art means to us. Alecs and his wife, Elena, run Soppa de Azul, a co-working space where many artists and digital nomads gather. It’s the perfect place for me to focus on my work. Another reason for my return was to personally give Alecs a copy of my Nostr book, documenting a year-long artistic journey in which he played a part. For the past three years, I’ve traveled from Bangkok to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with a stop in Dubai a 24-hour journey that brings me back to Europe and to my artist friend, Alecs Navio. Along with his wife, he runs a coworking space called Soppa de Azul. The main reason I return here is to create new art. Alecs constantly inspires me—we talk about art, artists, and he shares books that spark new ideas for my work. As an artist, I believe it’s essential to keep evolving. Growth comes from inspiration, and there’s no better source than fellow artists. Surrounding yourself with creative minds fuels your passion, and it all starts with conversations about art and life. Today was a perfect example of why I’m here. I looked at some of my older artwork hanging in the coworking space and said I didn’t like it anymore. Alecs reminded me that I should appreciate my past work because it’s part of my journey. Without it I wouldn’t be the artist I am today. I always say the journey is the destination, and Alecs helped me see that this applies to art as well. This is why I believe in surrounding myself with people who inspire me those who celebrate my growth and remind me why they are such an important part of my journey.
